The Desert Sportsman’s Rifle & Pistol Clubs License Is Up For Renewal

The Desert Sportsman’s Rifle & Pistol Club located on Charleston just on your way towards the visitor center at Red Rock Canyon has a license that comes up for renewal every ten years.  ( CLUB WEBSITE )  It has always been a good place to go shooting and almost anything goes, machine guns, automatic weapons and your regular guns and rifles.  They have gun safety courses and are members of the NRA.

However as Summerlin grows should this range really be located where it is?  The villages that are most affected are The Paseos, The Ridges, Red Rock Country Club, and the new village which will be built west of The Paseos.

I had the honor today to attend The First Summerlin Blogger’s Breakfast.  Tom Warden, (Senior Vice President of Community and Government Relations of the Howard Hughes Corporation ) came to speak to us about the latest going on in Summerlin.  He just found out today about the hearing this evening on the renewal for the club and he will be there to oppose the license being renewed.

This first meeting is just the committee and will most likely go to the full commission in about a month.  There is NO Notification to neighborhoods around the shooting range so it will be up to the blogger’s and Home News to advise people of this.

This blog will have an update with the date and time we will be able as Summerlin Residents go down and give our opinion on the renewal of this license.  I have always believed in the right to bare arms but is this Rifle and Pistol Club now too close to where our families live?  I would like some comments on this.

After the meeting I drove up and snapped a couple of pictures.

Summerlin Snow Day 2

This photo was taken last year by the
www.summerlinks.com

The annual Summerlin Snow Day will take place this Saturday Jan.24th 2009 in the Arbors Park.  You must have proof of residency to attend this family fun event.  Summerlin actually had our own snow this year, but this event is still always a big hit.  The Arbors Tennis and Play Park transforms itself into a winter wonderland.  Day of the event passes will be going for $10.00.  This will be starting at 12 noon.  Hot Chocolate and water will be sold for a dollar.  Events include snow play, cookies (yum) and sledding.  Plastic saucers will be provided as personal sleds are not permitted.    If you want to get your tickets before Saturday you can go to Gardens, Trails or Willow Community Centers and purchase before hand at $7.00.  I know everyone is sure to have fun.

Summerlin A New Green Neighborhood

Solar Homes in Summerlin Villa Trieste             Villa Trieste Model Homes        Villa Trieste

Villa Trieste Pulte’s newest collection of energy efficient homes. Pulte has built energy efficient homes for several years offering guarantees on the cost’s of AC in the summer and heat in the winter.  This community 185 homes is in partnership with The US Department of Energy, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and local power company NV Energy who put in 7 million dollars to build this solar community.  The goal of this solar system is to reduce energy consumption by 65%.

Villa Trieste may be the first Nevada community that will be Leed Certification, it is Pulte’s goal to get this certification.  There are dozens guidelines that have to be met.  From the building materials used, water conservation, use of the land, recycling of building materials, and of course energy use.  The US Green Building Council will grade the homes after they are built.

One thing I found very exciting is an energy meter that will supply real time energy use statistics for the homeowner.  Centralized battery storage at the power substation will store the power on off peak times and and give the power back on on peak times.

I have not visited the community yet when it was opened, it was closed when I took these pictures but I will be visiting soon and take some more pictures on the inside and give my impressions.  I am excited about this project and can not wait for someone to move in.  I will go and interview them for this blog and get first hand impressions.  It will be a little while though since the models were just opened.  Update soon.

There are 4 models ranging from 1,487 sq. feet to 1,960 sq. feet.  ( These are also all new designs, Pulte has not used them in any other community.) Prices will start in the mid $200,000.  Residents will also have access to The West Park Community Pool.  Of course we already know this is in the master-planned community of Summerlin which has a lot of amenities of their own.

Energy Features

A “green” community, Villa Trieste offers energy and water-efficient living.  Homes feature solar panel roofs and are LEED certified, as well as built under the Environments for Living® – Green Certified program
SunPower® solar paneling on roofjs

  • Diamond-level Environments for Living® package with 3-year heating and cooling guarantee
  • 100% ENERGY STAR® certified
  • Energy Dashboard
  • Envelope insulation system with blown-in cellulose
  • Low-E, dual-pane, vinyl-framed windows
  • York® 15 SEER-rated air conditioning system and energy-efficient gas furnace
  • Rinnai® tankless water heater
  • Honeywell® digital thermostat
  • Family protection carbon monoxide and smoke detectors
  • Gas range and gas dryer hook-ups

UPDATE      I went and visited the community.  Beautiful, and is going to be so efficient.  I talked with the site agent and had some packets put together for buyers that are interested in this new neighborhood.  I took a lot of pictures, more than I can put on this blog, but you can see all the pictures I took here.   If you would like me to send you the packet on this awesome place just give
me a call or send me an email.

You can see the Pending sales have gone up this week.  That means there are buyers out there purchasing.
What is the difference between my stats on Bank Owned Vs Foreclosures?  Well the bank owned have already
been through the foreclosure process and are now owned by the lender.  Foreclosures are when the homeowner
or renter are still in possession of the house but the lender has started the foreclosure proceedings against them.

Summerlin Sports Park Offers Diverse Adventures

Las Vegas Sports park is located at 1400 N. Rampart Blvd. ( the corner of Vegas Drive)

About 6 months ago a three field Paintball arena.  One field is designated for Speed-ball seven on seven players dodging around inflatable bunkers.  The other two fields are geared towards “scenario” paintball in which players  have hay bales, tires, and wooden barricades with portholes to shoot through,  playing to last man standing or capture the enemy’s flag.

There are plenty of regular players, but also a lot of first timers, some in their 70’s.

paintball

Just recently a new challenging attraction opened at the Sports Park.  It has a rock wall, zip lines and tight ropes.  The challenge course features six low elements and six high elements.  The low elements are all on the ground and are meant to be done in groups.  (they do a lot of team building for businesses)
One such team building includes a telephone pole laid on the ground.  The participants are asked to stand on the pole and then arrange themselves according to height without touching the ground.
One high element which are geared more towards individuals is the zip line, the participant can reach the lines by either scaling a 32 foot climbing wall or climbing a ladder.  Once hooked to the zip line they will travel down at about 35 MPH.  You can read more about this diverse adventure that sounds great

The Summerlin Sports Park offers so much more Martial Arts, Fencing, Indoor Soccer, Batting cages, and so much more.  To check there whole curriculum you can read about it Here

There is so much to do here, and learn wow families and kids a like will have a lot of fun.

Summerlin Las Vegas Honored for Trails System

Paseo Village one of the Walking Trails @Summerlin

UPDATE TO SUMMERLIN TRAILS: I had an email from someone asking for more information about the Summerlin Trail System and a map. I do apologize to that person I had computer troubles and lost the email.  Hope you read the blog again for this update. I know there is a map at www.summerlin.combut I came across an amazing array of pictures from Southern Nevada Regional Trails and Open Spaces Summit.  Now I will continue to take my own pictures and add to the blog when I am out and about but these pictures of Summerlin and the trails are amazing!!!!  ENJOY!
Trail Pictures and Maps:)

This picture is just a very small snippet of the walking trails in the master-planned community of Summerlin.  Located on the NW rim of the Las Vegas Valley.
The Howard Hughes Corporation who is the developer of Summerlin received the Trails Developer Award recently.  The award recognizes developers who establish quality, well-designed, multi uses trail systems with in private developments.  It is the only award of its kind in the nation.  “Summerlin’s extensive trail system is a model of efficient.  The 150-mile trail system connects neighborhoods and amenities throughout Summerlin.”  According to the National Association of Home Builders trails are the number one amenity homeowners seek when buying a home.  The Howard Hughes Corporation conducts routine resident that echo this same information.  ( I know this true because I have participated in these surveys after living in Summerlin for so long.)  The last survey revealed trails rank well ahead of parks, golf courses, and other recreational facilities.  In use 70% of the residents say they use the trails at least every couple of weeks.  On any given day thousands of Summerlin residents can be seen walking, running, or cycling on one of the community trails.  The trail system in Summerlin includes five types of planned trails.  Street-side, village, bike, regional and natural. The regional trails will link Summerlin with the link to the BLM in Red Rock Canyon.  Red Rock National Conservatory Area is being designed  for multiple non motorized uses.

Summerlin’s trail system will eventually connect to more than 2,000 miles of regional trails.  This will make it most efficient trail system in the Southwest.  These regional trails will be done in public and private partnership.  This involves the Howard Hughes Corporation, Clark County and the city of Las Vegas.

Street-side trails vary in width from 5-8 feet and are designed for both serious and casual runners and walkers.

Village Trails are 8 feet wide and are in natural creek beds or man-made open space corridors.  They cater to long distant walkers and runners as well as bicyclist.

Dedicated bicycle routes and stripped bike lanes are typically 4 to 6 feet in width and are geared toward the more experienced cyclists.

A network of natural trails is planned along the western rim of Summerlin.  These will be designed for the outdoor enthusiast and serious hikers.

Summerlin just keeps getting better and better to live in.
