Summerlin Parade 2011

The 17th annual Summerlin Patriotic Parade will take place on Monday July 4th. It will start at 8:30 am in the Trails Village.

This parade is very popular in Las Vegas and more than just Summerlin residents attend. An expected crowd of 40,000 should line the tree lined streets very well. There are more than 60 entries this year. Traditional and Macy style floats will adorn this wonderful parade.

The parade starts at the corner of Hillpointe Road and Hills Center Drive in The Trails village of Summerlin. Participants travel south on Hills Center Drive toward the Village Center Circle roundabout before heading west on Trailwood Drive. The parade will end at the corner of Trailwood Drive and Spring Gate Lane.

I will not be able to attend this year, but hope some of my friends will take some wonderful pictures I will be able to share soon.

Summerlin Overpasses

If you are driving along the 215 from Cheyenne to Tropicana or the other way around you will find these beautiful petro glyphs on the over passes. Another very good thing is the fact that there are no stop lights in Summerlin and the 215 as of about one month ago. The last two entrance/exits opened up and while there is still some road construction as you can see from the photo’s above, ( I risked life and limb stopping to take pictures!) it is a pleasure to not stop for any traffic lights. Below is a statement put out by Tom Warden ( The Howard Hughes Corporation VP of community and government relations.) I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Warden at a breakfast last year that was thrown for Summerlin bloggers. A man very passionate about Summerlin.

Anyone driving along the 215 beltway through Summerlin has probably noticed the American Indian rock art that adorns freeway overpasses. According to Tom Warden, vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corporation, the placement of rock art on Summerlin overpasses is no accident.

“We have long recognized the historical significance of preserving this special element of our local heritage,” said Warden. “That’s why The Howard Hughes Corp. paid for the design and installation of these rock art images. They not only give the beltway in Summerlin a distinctive look, they celebrate and help preserve Native American images from our region.”

The Howard Hughes Corporation is working with both federal and state governments, as well as tribal leaders and the archeology community, to develop a plan for protecting American Indian rock art etched into rock outcroppings in the Little Red Rocks area in the far western region of Summerlin. The plan involves a volunteer stewardship program that will study and monitor five cultural sites preserved within more than 100 acres of buffer lands in western Summerlin.

“In keeping with the company’s track record of environmental stewardship,” said Warden, “we are committed to the long-term protection and preservation of these cultural sites.”

In addition to preserving cultural sites, Warden, who is overseeing the effort for the company, is actively working with local archaeology groups and volunteers to scientifically record the specific nature, location and condition of existing rock art.

The Howard Hughes Corporation believes this collaborative effort between governments, groups, individuals and our company will help us all to meet the challenges of preserving this cultural heritage.

Le Cordon Bleu Event in Summerlin

Summerlin’s Le Cordon Bleu Event

This sounds like a wonderful event and yummy too. Le Cordon Bleu is a wonderful part of Summerlin, I will be doing a full post on this school. In the meantime this event sounds like a lot of fun.

RETURNS TO LE CORDON BLEU LAS VEGAS
Public invited to sample chocolates and sweets at pre-Valentine’s Day tasting

WHAT                        The public is invited to sample pastries, sweets and chocolates from around the world at a pre-Valentine’s Day tasting at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas on Monday, February 9. The pastries and chocolates are made exclusively by chefs and students from the culinary school. This is the fourth annual Sweets from Around the World event hosted by the school.

                                    New this year, the school will offer an exclusive wine tasting, pairing six different wines with sweets from the event. The wine tasting is limited to the first 40 individuals who RSVP by calling 702.851.5322.

                                    The 60,000-square-foot school will also be open for self-guided tours. The facility includes several demonstration and instructional kitchens, classrooms and a student-staffed fine dining restaurant, Café Bleu.

Fun in the Snow For Summerlin Residents Jan. 24th 2008

The annual Summerlin Snow Day will take place this Saturday Jan.24th 2009 in the Arbors Park. You must have proof of residency to attend this family fun event. Summerlin actually had our own snow this year, but this event is still always a big hit. The Arbors Tennis and Play Park transforms itself into a winter wonderland. Day of the event passes will be going for $10.00. This will be starting at 12 noon. Hot Chocolate and water will be sold for a dollar. Events include snow play, cookies (yum) and sledding. Plastic saucers will be provided as personal sleds are not permitted. If you want to get your tickets before Saturday you can go to Gardens, Trails or Willow Community Centers and purchase before hand at $7.00. I know everyone is sure to have fun.

Happy Holidays Summerlin.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We even had a small snow storm to give us a very small white Christmas. I was up at The Suncoast where we had dinner with friends. When we came out the snow was flying that was around 9:30 PM. I did not have my camera with me darn it. I wish each and every Summerlin resident a very Happy New Years!

While I am here let me remind you that you will be able to recycle your tree from Dec. 26th- Jan. 15th a drop site has been set up at the RC Wiley parking lot at 3850 South Town Center Drive the trees will then go to The Springs Preserve to be mulched up for all of our benefits.

Summerlin Snow

In all of Las Vegas today Summerlin got the snow! It is very pretty and it makes me feel like Christmas is really almost here. I have lived in Summerlin for about 9 Years now and this is only the second time I have seen snow on the ground. Not only on the ground but it is sticking and staying and we are suppose to get even more on Wednesday. Too bad this did not happen next week and we would truly have a white Christmas. Up until the snow today I had been feeling a little hum-buggy. After all it is my mom and myself. My son and granddaughter live in South Carolina. We decided this year to take the money we would spend on each other and give to the Salvation Army. We also dug out all of our coats that have been packed away and gave them. ( Glad I saved one for me!) So we are lifting ourselves out of the non spirit to big spirit and I like it.

Las Vegas PGA Courses Site of Benefit for Phil Mickelson and Others

November 11, 2008 TPC Summerlin will host a benefit for for our military and their families. This is part of the PGA National Military outreach program.

” Six outstanding B4B (Birdies for the Brave) home front groups will benefit from the event including two supported by PGA Tour star Phil Mickelson and one supported by Las Vegas resident and PGA Tour star Nick Watney.”

The address for TPC Summerlin is 1700 Village Center Circle Las Vegas Nv 89134. Their home page is some amazing pictures of the golf course are there.
I really like Phil Mickelson and Nick Watney. Phil has not been playing real well this year but he is fun to watch just the same. I love Watney because he is a Las Vegas resident and it is good to support local people.

If you want to know about the PGA Military Out reach program you can read more about it here Birdies for the Brave I think it is a wonderful program and any help our guys and gals can get is a blessing. There are several projects going on. God Bless them everyone.

My son was in the Navy on the USS Kitty Hawk. He went in with the first wave into Iraq. I was under the delusion that since he had his own plane he was responsible for he would be on the ship and the planes would land and take off from there. I was wrong the airport was the first thing they secured! I did not know until he came home and I am glad I did not.

My heart goes out to every mother and father whose child is fighting. The wives and husbands, and the children of our military deserve any help they can get and more.

Summerlin Summer Beach Campout

What fun for families in this beach camp out at The Crossings Park in Summerlin. The fun will all start on June 6th 2008 at 6PM. There will be a barbecue dinner service. There will be water bouncies, face painting, and a beach party.

Bring your bathing suits, dry clothes, and a tent and sleeping bags and have fun camping out in the park as a family. What a great way for families to spend some time together in our beautiful Summerlin Parks.

Breakfast will be served the next morning, a great way to end your night of sleeping under the stars.

There is a cost for this $15.00 per camper it is a bargain for all the fun you will have. Pre-registrations are needed so get your space now. You can sign up at The Trails, The Willows, or Gardens community centers.

The floats have been registered and the excitement is building in anticipation in this very popular Summerlin event. I can not wait and I will have my own pictures this year. If not maybe Phil will let me use his again

The entire Las Vegas valley is invited to celebrate Independence Day at the 15th annual Summerlin Patriotic Parade, the valley’s largest and most colorful Fourth of July parade. Organized by The Summerlin Council, the parade features more than 70 entries including traditional floats, dance performers, musical groups, giant inflatable balloons, cars and other decorated vehicles, dignitaries and local mascots.
