The annual reading program at the Summerlin Library started on Jun 1st. More than 200 children and their parents attended the event. The event is to encourage reading for children toddlers to teenagers. It is a great way to keep kids reading and learning while they are out of school for the summer. There is a club that children can sign up for called CLUB READ. Each log represents 20 spaces, each space is 20 minutes time spent reading. Now there are prizes for filling out the log. 5 spaces gets a mood changing pencil, 10 spaces will get a Children’s Museum pass and entry into the Grand Prize 4 airline tickets to anywhere in the US courtesy of Southwest Airlines. 15 spaces earns a pencil pouch, and all 20 spaces result in a gold medal and a second entry into the Grand Prize drawing. WOW why would any kid not do that? I can see parents encouraging the reading so they can take the family on vacation. I know I would how about you? The reading event goes on until July 31st.
The event will include several reading programs such as Fractured Fairy tales on June 23rd and Sparkly Stories for the 4th of July. That reading takes place July 1-3rd.
Sounds to me like this is a wonderful program and is going to be a popular one.
